follow up to 2/25 meeting w/ client

Tom,

I just wanted to summarize what we talked about today in our meeting about the Client Management Tutorial that we are creating for you. We talked about using the design metaphor of a grey file folder as the intro. This simple intro page would include the title as well as a note that is paper-clipped to it giving an introduction to what we are talking about, and telling the user what to do. Once they enter the actual project, we will be using the black interface that we agreed on, except we will make it grey to match the intro and using a more limited color pallet. We talked about using color, not to color code the sections but to color code different content like links, clickable items, what to highlight, what to read, etc. We talked about the importance of really showing them what they will need to be doing/ clicking on both by having images of actual buttons and implementing flash animations that animate the actions the user will take on the screen. We agreed that we will use an html skeleton for the nav and basic content and images, while implementing flash content where it is necessary. Lastly, we talked about the quiz and making it more interactive by adding more graphics and images. We will also use the quiz as a teaching tool by providing immediate feedback as the user answers questions.

Thank you so much for your time this morning. We will be getting back in touch with you next week about setting up another meeting to get you to sign off on a detailed content outline and our finalized comps.

Thanks,
Hannah Edwards

File Management Tutorial Notes (content outline from client)

This is an outline of the content we will be including in our project:

Where we work with files:
1-desktop
2-server
3-working with portable media

File naming:
1-file naming specifics (no spacing, underscore or hyphen, camelScript, meaningful names vs. short names)
2-file extensions
3-version numbers
4-directory listing order

Specific:
1- establish a site (root) folder
2- organizing files for a website (put in proper location first, by media, short lowercase names, etc)
3- setting up a project folder and organizing files for other projects

Specific:
1-absolute pathnames vs. relative pathnames (problems with absolute, establishing a relative starting point, etc.)
2- . and.. in relative pathnames
3- checking Dreamweaver links and images

general:
1-movie a site or project to another disk
2- making backups (copy, not move)

also include:
1-printed notes
2-quiz

Follow up email to client (after first meeting 2/11)

Tom,

I wanted to thank you again for taking time to meet with us today about the file management tutorial. I just wanted to send you a quick overview of what we talked about in our meeting today.

We talked about this project being a way for 202 students (as well as 307 and 308 students who need the review) to be able to learn about file naming, file organization, and relative verses absolute paths, as they relate to web design and site management. You mentioned that one of the things students have the most trouble understanding is the difference between absolute and relative paths. You also talked about how there needs to be a focus on being able to recognize problems with and check links and images in Dreamweaver. We will be using the handout that you gave us to guide us as we research and organize the content that we will be including in the project. We also talked about the current file management tutorial and how our project is not merely a redesign but a completely new approach to the topic. One major difference that you would like us to address is being more detailed by including 2-3 examples of most everything we talk about. You told us that you were open to how the design of the tutorial will look.We talked about the need for a more interactive/advanced quiz. We will also be designing for a bigger screen area since we know that this project will primarily be used on personal computers, and not projected at the front of the class.

We look forward to staying in touch with you throughout the entire project so feel free to let us know if you remember anything else that you wanted to tell us or if you have any further questions. I'll be contacting you again next week about setting up another time to meet.

Thanks again,
Hannah Edwards
